Of cassettes and reels
We used to get cassettes and tape recorders that used to have different lights that changed with the beats. Being kids, we would adjust the bass and treble and pretend to be Djs.
I would fine tune a song and then pretend that i made it better than the original. We used to lock our rooms from inside, get the room dark and enjoy music in large home made wooden speakers.
Someone would attach a motorcycle's bulb to the speaker and it would glow brighter as the speakers vibrated to bass.
Cold mornings when there were no phones, we would wake up to the sound of sparrows and the only light in the room was golden sunshine.
I would wake up after a deep sleep and the first thing in my hand would be a glass full of sweet tea and a stale chapati from last night. That would be the morning snack which would give the required energy to start the day.
As i would walk out, there would be different flowers which would close every night in the dark and would open when the sun came up. I would watch the flowers open.
I would sit on the cold stairs, barefoot, and enjoying the warm sun as the birds started their daily chores. There was no internet or phone to look at. There was nothing happening in the world that i would have understood. No news, no politics, no social media.
The few friends i had would appear like clockwork and we would go to some new place everyday.
Wearing old sweaters and old rubber slippers, i would walk into the fields and see a bit of haze form over the fields which had been watered.
It smelled of green grass and mud. It was a different time when everything was different.
Everything has changed. I will talk about more things. I have work to do.
